Instead of spending their summer break at the beach or in malls, a large group of students are roughing it for more than 70 hours waiting for the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre’s (香港會議展覽中心) doors to open.

They are ardent anime fans queuing up for tomorrow’s highly anticipated opening of the annual Ani-com & Games Hong Kong fair. (香港動漫節)

A 23-year-old enthusiast surnamed Wong said it was his seventh time at the fair.

Most of the anime fans at the queue are junior secondary students, some of them as young as 12.

"We didn't need to queue so early like last year," Wong said.

All of them are hoping to be among the first 300 customers, which would entitle them to an early bird card and a chance to buy limited edition products.

With pillows, food and playing cards, fans are prepared to spend three nights sleeping outside the Wan Chai venue.
