失憶學生備忘錄

學生就讀的中學,高中課程改用英語授課,為免她適應不了,於是暑假如常補習。



這天,栗跟她一起研習
number system (
數字系統)。由於她之前用中文課本,於是簡單如 integer (整數)fraction (分數) 等都不懂,要栗重頭解說一遍。做了一會「人肉快譯通」,栗便合上課本,查考學生──



栗妹:「integer是甚麼?」

學生:「唔……指數!」

栗妹:「是整數才對呀~~~

時值暑假,學生的失憶症益發嚴重 (每過三行便會把之前所讀的統統忘掉),於是栗便邊解邊問,希望加強她的記憶。直至下課,栗還在唸叨「integer
是甚麼?consecutive
又作何解?」跟瘋婆子無異。

已著學生買生字簿,希望她會把生字抄下來好好溫習。

  2. I don't know how old the girl is.  Truth be known, if you asked 100 American girls aged 15 to define an integer, I would be very surprised if more than half could do it correctly.

  3. No, I didn't mean a formal written definition.  I only meant knowing what the word means.

  4. Oh they teach it there, but most adults don't remember what they learned in secondary school, especially in math and science, unless they work in a field that requires that knowledge.  Not many people need to know what an integer is in their line of work.
