昨天高考放榜,英文科合格率成為傳媒焦點。與去年相比,今年英文科合格率微升百分之零點五,有此「佳績」,教育局的官員應該可以鬆一口氣吧?
一直慶幸自己早離開校園,不用受政府混亂的教學語言政策荼毒。並非覺得母語教學不好,但當年政策行得太急、太一刀切,才會弄至學校和家長無所適從,令莘莘學子受苦。
所謂「上有政策、下有對策」,經過了十年強制母語教學,很多學校也發展了一套抗衡的對策,讓學生多接觸英語。譬如週日跟補習學生作數學科賽後檢討,發現她的考卷竟然是中英夾雜!原來她的學校規定,教科書用中文版,補充練習就用英文版;然後考卷就八成中文題,兩成英文題。
另一個學生的學校,則在地理科筆記中附加英文詞彙對照表,然後在考卷設獎賞題,讓學生寫出筆記中的英文詞彙。
這些對策能有助提升學生的英語水平嗎?天曉得~~~
I'd doubt that it helps. Any second language learning requires substantial amount of immersion. The government knows that. That's why they imposed the mother tongue education policy. Anything short of a complete repeal of that 荼毒 is a nonstarter towards improving the situation.
回覆刪除[版主回覆07/08/2008 05:45:00]Dear Teach: When I was in secondary school, our teachers adopted a bilingual approach in class. We used English textbooks, but the teachers explained the contents in Chinese. It couldn't help improve my English, but at least it gave me more chance to learn new words in different subjects. I don't know if this method still works today, but I really enjoyed the classes.
問題是其他科目用英文教,學生當然可以接觸英文(如果唔考慮其他科老師的英文水平未必高),但係就令其他科目的學習更困難。因為學生要同時應付不熟悉的語文和知識。有能力以英文學習的學生不多,這樣就會令他們難以建立對其他科目的興趣,所以對其他科目未必公平(除了某些用中文和英文一樣難的科目,如化學)。
